About The American Chiropractic Neurology Board

The American Chiropractic Neurology Board (ACNB) is the sole specialty board in neurology in the chiropractic profession recognized by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) through the ACA Council on Neurology. The ACNB’s board certification program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and the International Accreditation Services (IAS).

The ACNB administers an annual computer-based examination and an annual performance or practical examination at least one time per year. Examination dates are posted on the website. The examinations are comprehensive and are based on an examination blueprint derived from a Job Analysis survey performed every five years covering knowledge and tasks of the specialty in chiropractic neurology.

What is a Chiropractic Neurologist?

A chiropractic neurologist is a Doctor of Chiropractic, or the equivalent in healthcare, who has taken 300 hours of post-doctorate education and training in functional neurology and passed the written and performance exams required for certification by the ACNB.  Doctors who take and pass the examinations receive board certification and are Diplomates of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board (DACNB).

Chiropractic neurology is a field of functional neurology that engages the internal and external environment of the individual in a structured and targeted approach to affect positive changes in function.  Therapeutic protocols are based on mainstream and current scientific research on brain and central nervous system integration.  The doctors will direct appropriate clinical applications that optimize the development or rehabilitation of central nervous system function.  Neuroscience research supports interventions provided by chiropractic neurologists for the repair and recovery of the nervous system and eliminating pain and various symptoms for children and adults.

Chiropractic neurologists utilize the most current rehabilitative methods and equipment for specific integration of the musculoskeletal, motor, and sensory systems to evoke specific neuron activation and integration adjunctively with specialized chiropractic manipulative procedures as indicated by examination.
